Name given to astatine, element 85, but not accepted.
In 1931 Fred Allison and his associates at the Alabama Polytechnic Institute announced discovery of element 85. They named it “alabamine”, with the symbol Ab. Three years later their discovery was effectively refuted by McPherson.
